Media Arts Center announces new location

The San Diego Media Arts Center announced on Tuesday that it will be relocating from North Park to UC San Diego’s new building at Park Boulevard and Market Street in the East Village.

Founded in 1992, Media Arts Center San Diego is the driving force behind the San Diego Latino Film Festival, Digital Gym Cinema, and educational initiatives such as the Teen Producers Project and Youth Media and Tech Camps.

“We are delighted to finally be able to announce our new partnership with UC San Diego. We would like to thank Mary Walshok and everyone at the University of California at San Diego who stood up for our community film and education programs to make it a reality, ”said Ethan van Thillo, Executive Director and Founder of Media Arts Center, in a statement. The 66,750 square foot four-story office building is located one streetcar stop in San Diego.

The Media Arts Center office will be on the third floor and will include classrooms for media education for youth and adolescents.

The Digital Gym Cinema will be on the second floor, adjacent to the gallery space and an overhanging terrace. The concession stands will operate during cinema hours.

Digital Gym Cinema’s gradual launch date is October 2021.
