Mathrubhumi opens media school in Kochi to train future journalists

Kerala’s Mathrubhumi Media Group has launched its new business, “Mathrubhumi Media School”, in Kochi.

The Media School, whose aim is to promote excellence in the field of media, will instill broad knowledge, integrity and social engagement in its students. It will offer several comprehensive courses for an aspiring journalist, with a distinguished faculty dedicated to training students in state-of-the-art facilities, which the group has within its media network and other media establishments. The school will ensure immersive professional experiences throughout its course.

The official opening ceremony was attended by George Sebastian, Dean, Mathrubhumi Media School; MV Jayakumar, senior news editor; PK Jayachandran, office manager; P Sindhu, Unit Leader, Mathrubhumi and Naveen Sreenivasan, Group Leader.

The one-year program at Mathrubhumi Media School includes hands-on media exposure, projects and assignments specially focused on experiential learning through field experience, collaboration with major media for training and a two-month internship for students.

“To this latest venture, Mathrubhumi brings its unwavering commitment to accuracy and credibility, which has guided our fortunes from tumultuous beginnings to an era of media synergy between platforms. We will impart the best of education and training, with rigorous loyalty to respect for truth, equality and freedom, ”said MV Shreyams Kumar, Deputy Managing Director of the Mathrubhumi Group.

George Sebastian, Dean of Mathrubhumi Media School, said: “We have within the group all the elements of mass media, namely; newspapers, magazines, television, FM radio, online media and a fully developed experiential marketing division. With an experience of over 94 years of excellence in the creation of content and reports, Mathrubhumi is particularly well equipped to set up a media school. We believe in giving students a healthy learning experience that not only involves journalism theory, but they also put what they learn into practice.
