Mathrubhumi group to launch media school in Kochi


To encourage the next generation to rise to the top of today’s demanding information and media professions, Mathrubhumi is embarking on a new venture, “Mathrubhumi Media School” in Kochi, Kerala.

The Media School, with the aim of promoting excellence in the field of media, will instill broad knowledge, integrity and social commitment. It offers comprehensive courses for an aspiring journalist, with a distinguished faculty dedicated to training the next generation of journalists to specialize in the state-of-the-art facilities the group has in its media network. Mathrubhumi Media School ensures immersive professional experiences throughout its course.

The one-year program at Mathrubhumi Media School includes hands-on media exposure, projects and assignments specially focused on experiential learning through field experience, collaboration with leading media houses for training and a two-month internship with an allowance for deserving students.

Speaking on the occasion, MV Shreyams Kumar, Deputy Managing Director of Mathrubhumi Group, said: “This is a historic milestone for a 94 year old media company; we want to help train great leaders, develop skills and expertise, which will testify to the philosophy and conviction of our organization.

George Sebastian, Dean of Mathrubhumi Media School, said: “We have within the group all the elements of mass media, namely; newspapers, magazines, television, FM radio, online media and a fully developed experiential marketing division. With an experience of over 94 years of excellence in the creation of content and reports, Mathrubhumi is particularly well equipped to set up a media school. As a media conglomerate, Mathrubhumi maintains very strong and established relationships with various constituents of the media world, such as leading national and regional advertisers, research agencies, government ministry and departments, and industry bodies such as ASCI, MRUC, INS, IBF and AROI, and with other media companies. This will allow us to provide a platform for students to interact with various industry experts. We believe in giving students a healthy learning experience that not only involves journalism theory, but they also put what they learn into practice.

Mathrubhumi Media School is expected to open in July 2019.
