LEWISTON — Building Bridges Maine, a Braver Angels affiliate, is hosting a one-hour media education session beginning at 5:30 p.m. Monday.
Braver Angels is a national civic organization that works to unite Americans of all political persuasions in an alliance to depolarize the nation, including through workshops, debates, and music.
The zoom will be moderated by Karla Doremus-Tranfield of KDT Business Strategies, based in Camden. It will feature Judith Meyer, editor of the Sun Journal, Kennebec Journal and Morning Sentinel.
According to Meyer, “healthy people, healthy businesses, healthy governments – healthy communities – are all better informed and engaged by independent community journalists who scrutinize school budgets, expose scandals, questioning practices and politics, scrutinizing environmental trends, advocating for the good and daring to challenge fear and lies.
Communities are also “more resilient and better able to thrive when informed by the truth,” she said.
The event will help consumers identify factual journalism and distinguish trusted news sources from the growing whirlwind of misinformation and misinformation online.
